Cigar Box Guitars for 1-Finger Cigar Box Guitar Slingers
All 2 and 3-string CBGs are not the same and some are more suitable than others for 1-finger playing. String action, tension, and spacing make a big difference in playability. My CBGs are simple and are designed to optimize ease of play. They also fit in standard ukulele gig bags so you can easily carry them with you.
There are excellent CBGs readily available from Etsy, eBay, C.B. Gitty, and other vendors, however, some may not be suited for 1-finger playing. They may excel at other musical styles and approaches to playing including slide. Some would also look amazing hanging in the den.
Current CBG’s I am building
GD Chugger CBG: $60 – Acoustic $75 – Acoustic-Electric
This is the assembled version of the super easy to play GD Chugger from my Build and Play Workshops. It’s for those of you who just want to play and not be bothered with screwdrivers or drills. Don’t be fooled, you can make great music with just 2 strings. I do it all the time! This one is based on a current cigar box, has a 24” scale length, and nickel wound guitar strings. Fits in a baritone ukulele gig bag. It’s an Uncle Crow style stick on box build with a big unplugged sound. Even bigger with the Acoustic-Electric version.

3-String Vintage CBG: $100 – Acoustic-Electric
This one is based on a vintage cigar box, has a 20.1” scale length, and a mix of classical guitar and fishing line strings. Fits in a tenor ukulele gig bag. It sound great unplugged and even better plugged in.
